Background and History

Upper Iowa University, or UIU, was founded in 1857 in Fayette, Iowa. Upper Iowa University is a not-for-profit, private university. UIU now operates over 20 campuses nationwide, 5 international campuses and one online program for students worldwide. The mission of UIU is to provide a student centered environment for a liberal arts based education. UIU is also dedicated in serving the community in various capacities. Upper Iowa University was also named one of America’s Best Colleges 2007 by U.S. News & World Report Magazine. Online bachelor degree programs offered through Upper Iowa University are in the areas of business, communications, criminal justice, emergency and disaster management, education endorsements, elementary education, health service administration, human services, interdisciplinary studies, psychology, public administration, social science, and teacher education.

Accreditation and Job Placement

Upper Iowa University Online is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). The Higher Learning Commission is recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education and is a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Many individual programs are also accredited by separate agencies. Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Job placement is not guaranteed and statistics vary within programs. Career services available to students and alumni of Upper Iowa University include career counseling, career interest assessments and inventories, internships, resource library, career guidance, resume/cover letter writing, and job fairs.
