Background and History
Western International University, or West, was established as a non-profit institution in 1978 in Phoenix, Arizona. Presently, WIU is one of the schools offered by Apollo Education Group. It has one campus in Tempe, Arizona, and also offers programs online. The mission of West is to prepare students for leadership by providing a broad educational foundation with a focus on business and technology. Online bachelor degrees offered through Western International University are in the areas of behavioral science, human resource management, accounting, business, business administration, information technology, international business, and management.
Western International University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. Western International University was placed on Notice by The Higher Learning Commission, effective June 27, 2013. Notice is a Commission sanction indicating that an institution is pursuing a course of action that, if continued, could lead it to be out of compliance with one or more Criteria for Accreditation. An institution on Notice remains accredited. At the end of the Notice period, The Higher Learning Commission Board of Trustees may remove the sanction, place the institution on Probation if the identified concerns have not been addressed, or take other action.
