Background and History
Walden University was founded in 1970 by two teachers from New York. These teachers envisioned a student-centered learning environment focused on working adults needing flexibility in earning their degree. There is no campus for Walden University as all degrees are earned strictly online with offices based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Students worldwide can access over 20 quality degree programs. Walden University has a mission to provide opportunity for career professionals to better both themselves and society. Walden University was also named one of America's Best Colleges 2007 by U.S. News and World Report Magazine. Accreditation and Job Placement
Walden University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). The Higher Learning Commission is recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education and is a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Job placement rates are not posted, and employment is not guaranteed. Walden University is currently building a career services center (Feb. 2007) that will provide both students and alumni career development through counseling and various career services resources/reference material.
