Background and History

The University of Maryland University College, or UMUC, was founded in 1947 and is based out of Adelphi, Maryland. UMUC manages both national and worldwide institutions, serving 24 countries throughout the world. The University of Maryland University college is the 12th largest degree-granting institution in the United States and offers more than 100 degree programs entirely online. UMUC's Center for Teaching and Learning was awarded the Sloan C Excellence award for CTLA 201-Teaching with WebTycho Training Course in 2006. In 2004, UMUC earned the 2004 Prize of Excellence from the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) for "the highest possible excellence in the fields of open, distance, virtual, and flexible learning." UMUC is committed to providing quality education to the unique professional development of working adults, military personnel, and global students. Online bachelor degrees offered through the University of Maryland University College are in the areas of business and management, communication, arts and humanities, computer information systems and technology, legal studies and criminal justice, psychology, and social science.

Accreditation and Job Placement

The University of Maryland University College is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSCHE). The MSCHE is a voluntary, non-governmental, membership association founded in 1887 as a regional accrediting body. Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Job placement is not guaranteed.
