Background and History

The University of Maryland University College, or UMUC, was founded in 1947 and is based out of Adelphi, Maryland. UMUC manages both national and worldwide institutions, serving 24 countries throughout the world. The University of Maryland University college is the 12th largest degree-granting institution in the United States and offers more than 100 degree programs entirely online. UMUC's Center for Teaching and Learning was awarded the Sloan C Excellence award for CTLA 201-Teaching with WebTycho Training Course in 2006. In 2004, UMUC earned the 2004 Prize of Excellence from the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) for "the highest possible excellence in the fields of open, distance, virtual, and flexible learning."
