Background and History
The University of Cincinnati, or UC, was founded in 1819 when Cincinnati College and the Medical College of Ohio were chartered. About 50 years later, the City of Cincinnati established both schools as the University of Cincinnati. UC is classified by the Carnegie Commission as a Research University and is ranked as one of America's Top 25 public research universities. The University of Cincinnati is also ranked as one of the top 100 public universities in the nation by U.S. News & World Report magazine (each program is also individually ranked by the magazine). UC believes in providing quality learning with excellent faculty and a system designed to serve diversity in the student body.
