With the number of participating colleges growing, there’s never been a better time to seek an online bachelor’s degree in the state of New Jersey. Schools are meeting students’ demands for flexible school schedules and less expensive degrees by offering distance education programs that can be completed in part or in whole online. Thomas Edison State College

Thomas Edison State College currently offers more than 250 online courses and 15 bachelor’s programs. The courses are 12 weeks long and consist of a high amount of interaction with mentors and classmates. Students can also opt to take independent courses, which involve self-paced learning and a heavier test load. TESC allows for generous course transfer, and students can transfer up to 80 credits from a community college and 120 from a four-year institution. Majors include communications, computer science, criminal justice, English, history, nursing, psychology, information systems, and business administration with tracks in accounting, human resources, general management, marketing, and operations management.

Berkeley College

Berkeley College Online is designed for students looking to balance coursework with family, work, and social responsibilities. Courses can be accessed at any time, and students are free to contact their professors, classmates, and instructors by email or phone. Berkeley College Online uses Blackboard, one of the most widely-used platforms in online education, for its entire online curriculum. Students can choose from among degree plans including legal studies, health services, fashion marketing and management, and five management tracks, all offered within the same platform.

University of Medicine and Dentistry

  • Fields Offered: Health Sciences, Medical Imaging Sciences
  • Accreditor: Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSACS)

The School of Health Related Professions at University of Medicine and Dentistry offers online degree programs in two areas: health sciences and medical imaging sciences. The health sciences degree includes the tracks dental education, coordinated dietetics, diagnostic imaging technologies, and management and education. Medical imaging sciences includes radiologic imaging modalities, diagnostic medical sonography, nuclear medicine, cardiac sonography, and vascular sonography. The courses are offered completely online to suit the needs of students in different locations, and students have access to coursework and virtual libraries at all times.

Higher Education in New Jersey

The higher education system in New Jersey consists of 31 public colleges and universities and 34 independent institutions. There are 21 colleges and universities offering online degrees in New Jersey. Caldwell College, Thomas Edison State College, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Berkeley College, University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ, and Rider University all offer students several options to attain a bachelor’s degree online in New Jersey. There are also many New Jersey schools offering associate, master’s, and doctorate level programs.

New Jersey has adopted several measures to promote online education opportunities in the state. Along with more universities integrating online degree programs into their curriculums, online courses are also offered to high school students and working professionals. For example, the New Jersey Virtual School delivers online instruction to high school and middle school students, and students can earn course credits and recover past credits. The New Jersey Education Association has also implemented an e-learning academy where adults can earn professional development credits and certificates. While the push for online education within the state remains strong, the most online opportunities are in higher education.
