Georgia houses many venerable and high-quality colleges, many of which are bridging the gap between the old and the new by expanding into online education. Online bachelor’s degree programs allow students to advance their careers by earning degrees from wherever they are, be it around the state of Georgia or even across the country. The following are three such schools with online education offerings:

Southern Polytechnic State University

Southern Polytechnic State University offers a large number of online bachelor’s degrees in majors like accounting, business administration, and IT, as well as some lesser-seen degrees like fashion design & product development and, manufacturing operations, and supply chain logistics. SPSU’s Strategic Initiatives and Online Learning Unit oversees the various online education offerings at the school, which includes blended learning and certificate programs, to ensure the quality of course delivery. While four of SPSU’s online bachelor’s programs can be completed entirely online, the rest are designed for students transferring from other technical colleges and require a certain amount of time on campus.

Georgia Southern University

Georgia Southern University offers online undergraduate degree programs in general studies, information technology, and nursing. Blended options, certificate programs, and further undergraduate course work are also available. Georgia Southern University encourages the use of the Readiness for Education at a Distance Indicator (READI) to determine which distance learning degree would fit your requirements. Georgia Southern also participates in the Southern Regional Education Board’s Electronic Campus for Adult & e-Learners.

University of West Georgia

The University of West Georgia’s online bachelor’s degree in criminology is a liberal arts degree with social science methodologies. The program requires 120 semester hours of approved course work and can take between 12 months and three years to complete. Ninety credit hours may be transferred into the program. The University of West Georgia also offers eCore, an electronic core-curriculum for all University System of Georgia students. eCore allows students to complete the first two years of their education online. Exams for eCore classes require an approved proctor location.

Higher Education in Georgia

The University System of Georgia (USG) unified public higher education under a board of regents in 1931. The system comprises 35 colleges and universities, including the three above schools. The University System of Georgia also initiated Georgia ONmyLINE, which gathers the online and distance education resources from USG institutions.

Several Georgia institutions also participate in the Southern Regional Education Board’s Electronic Campus. The SREB’s Electronic Campus was launched in 1998 as an exchange of online courses and programs for colleges and universities in the South. Adult learning programs and a mentoring database are also available through the electronic campus. Georgia institutions participating in the SREB’s Electronic Campus include the Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia Southern University, the University of West Georgia, and the University of Georgia.
