Background and History

California Coast University is a distance learning only institution, founded in 1973. The founders of California Coast University, or CCU, set out in the early 1970′s to create an institution centered around assisting a very specific demographic of learners earn their college degrees. Through interviewing a majority of professionals who never finished earning their degrees, this group of founders for CCU discovered that many of these people were having a hard time succeeding in their careers because they did not hold the degree they set out to earn and did not have the time or right mind set to go back to a traditional college. California Coast University’s mission is to encourage working adults to finish earning a college degree while offering students undergraduate and graduate degree programs with an alternative, flexible method for degree completion. CCU offers bachelor degrees (most in the form of correspondence study) in the areas of business administration, health care administration, and psychology.

Accreditation and Job Placement

California Coast University is accredited through the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). DETC is an educational association based in Washington D.C., and sets the standards for all distance learning institutions. The DETC is also a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Job placement is not guaranteed; however, according to a recent poll taken by studentsreview.com, 73% of graduates surveyed are working in a job in their career major.
